Mohawk is a family-owned company that has been making exceptional printing papers since the 1930s. Graphic designers appreciate Mohawk’s range of fine papers, and the company enthusiastically supports the creative community with projects like the Maker Quarterly, a publication that inspires and informs with thoughtful storytelling and design.
The Challenge
Designed by designers for designers, the Mohawk Maker Quarterly reaches a highly discerning audience. The publication has to appeal to creative professionals with thought-provoking and interesting content, in a design setting that pushes boundaries, sparks ideas and demonstrates all that Mohawk papers are capable of. The Quarterly is conceived and produced by San Francisco design firm Hybrid.
The Collaboration
I’ve known of Mohawk papers since my days as editor and brand leader at HOW, the media brand that served creative professionals. My first assignment from Hybrid was a profile of Sibella Kraus, a founder of San Francisco’s iconic Ferry Plaza Farmers’ Market. It was a dream to interview the woman behind one of my favorite places to visit and a model for farmers’ markets around the world. From there, I continued to contribute other content to the Quarterly, including interviews with artists and designers, profiles of influential design projects and more.
