By chance, I saw an interview with John Mellencamp recently, in which he recounted advice he’d been given years ago by folk legend Pete Seeger:
Keep it small. But keep it going.
Amen to that.
Small is sustainable. It’s humane. Small is being choiceful. It means we don’t wake up one morning and ask ourselves, “How did all this stuff get here?” Small means we aren’t chasing a bigger paycheck. Small keeps us present. Small is freedom.
Small is one of four tenets that Rob and I have embraced as a sort of mantra:
Live slow.
Live small.
Live local.
Live analog.
As we head toward the end of 2018, as we live in a world that’s increasingly mean and scary and untrustworthy, a small, slow, local, analog life feels pretty comfortable. Safe.
We have what we want and we want what we have. Here’s hoping you do, too.
